About

Moving Parts New Zealand was founded in 2018 by Mikey Sorensen with the objective of creating a company that devises and stages modern contemporary dance pieces, as well as providing a platform for up and coming creators to develop their skills.

A Brief History

In 2017 Mikey Sorensen staged his first production, a contemporary dance showcase called ‘Bodies Entwined’. He then developed a second work ‘The Machine’ in 2018 which also led to establishing Moving Parts New Zealand; his own Creative Design and Production company to help create a network for local dancers to showcase their skills and works. In December of 2018 Moving Parts New Zealand produced ‘Raw’, a contemporary dance show choreographed by Hannah Franicevic. In 2019 Moving Parts New Zealand started work on ‘Enough’. This show was a year in the making as Mikey received valued mentorship from Playwright Victor Rodger, Choreographers Sacha Copland (Java Dance Company) and Louise Potiki-Bryant (Atamira Dance Company). In progressing ‘Enough’ further for its own season and two Festival inclusions, Mikey was fortunate to extend his learning through
mentorship from Taiaroya Royal (Black Grace, Okareka Dance Co.).
